Veterans Today: Free Neurofeedback for Enhanced Mental Function for Veterans

EEG Neurofeedback is being offered at no cost to returning veterans through a growing network of Neurofeedback practitioners nationwide.

The group of mental health practitioners volunteering their services has been brought together through the auspices of the Brian Othmer Foundation in Woodland Hills, Los Angeles, CA.

The group incorporates a variety of health and educational professionals who offer Neurofeedback as part or all of their practice. EEG Neurofeedback is training in brain function based on information derived from the EEG (electroencephalogram).

With such training, speedy recovery can be achieved for the sleep problems, pain syndromes, irritability, anger and rage, as well as cognitive deficits with which soldiers often return from combat. Somewhat longer training can offer symptomatic relief of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). The training can also help soldiers recover from excessive drug, alcohol, and tobacco dependency.

The training is based on reinforcement of good brain behavior as judged by the EEG. The repetition of this exercise for a number of thirty-minute sessions leads typically to improved cognitive function and improved emotional control... The work is success-oriented rather than deficit-focused. It is a fitness strategy that avoids the jargon of mental health, and suits the soldier's natural orientation toward a training and fitness program.

For information on the program, veterans are referred to the website www.EEG4veterans.com For additional information on Neurofeedback, please go to www.eeginfo.com. For information about research on Neurofeedback, see www.eegresearch.com. To contact the principal professional organizations involved with Neurofeedback: The International Society for Neuronal Regulation (www.isnr.org); and the Association for Applied Psychophysiology and Biofeedback (www.aapb.org) If the demand for free services begin to overload the individual practices, veterans may be placed on a waiting list. Additional Neurofeedback practitioners can be found at www.eegdirectory.com and at www.bcia.org. These practitioners have not committed to provide services at no charge, but many do accommodate people of limited financial means.

The EEG Institute is the clinic and clinical research center of the Brian Othmer Foundation. We offer a variety of brain wave training programs for adults and children. Our staff is also involved in teaching professionals throughout the world who want to incorporate Neurofeedback into their practices.
