Save a Marriage

Preserve your marriage

There are numerous ways to save a marriage; the first is to be accountable for your own actions. Endeavoring to rescue a marriage that seems to have reached rock bottom is not always so straightforward, although it can be done with utter perseverance and a positive attitude. Divorce is not always the answer; those who take this route may or may not have done everything in their power to prevent this from happening. Marriage is a shared commitment involving two people. Therefore, to save a marriage this pledge should be remembered and respected at all costs.

How to resolve indifferences

The worse thing that can happen in a relationship, when battling to determine ways of restoring their marriage, is that one partner is indifferent. Happily, it is achievable to save a marriage with the hard work of just one spouse. It definitely is not simple, but with absolute willpower it can be done.

Put together a list of the difficult areas within your marriage; establish what can perhaps be done to work them out. Give particular consideration to those problems that you recognize you are answerable for and work out what you can do to put them right. You will need to be one hundred percent truthful with yourself. Essentially, by knowing where the fault lies and believing otherwise is contradictive. One cannot hope to save a marriage when one declines to admit or agrees to take their share of the blame.

Counseling is another way to solve marital problems, and if a spouse shows no interest in resolving the problematic issues, then one partner can start some form of counseling on their own. You may perhaps have some deep-seated concerns that will necessitate you to deal with them. These are areas that more often than not, can cause an irretrievable break-down in a marriage. Nearly every one of us, have underlying issues that we have taken no notice of, and it is these hidden issues that wreak havoc in our lives. To save a marriage, we need to become aware of ourselves, what are we mirroring to our partner? What part of ourselves is being revealed?

When to get help

It is not always apparent when help is needed to save a marriage. However, there comes a time when you are forced to re-evaluate your marriage and earnestly admit that you do indeed need to get help from an experienced marital counselor. The ability to agree on this is a step forward in the right direction.
