In an environment of dignity, respect, and integrity,
PAIRS
teaches attitudes, emotional understandings, and behaviors that nurture
and sustain healthy relationships. The seminar format combines films,
lectures, individual assessments, literature, discussions, and
exercises.
Over the past 20 years, PAIRS has produced outstanding results for
tens of thousands of couples. Dr. Fibus has been trained and certified
by PAIRS founder, Dr. Lori Heyman Gordon.
What is PAIRS?
"PAIRS" stands for Practical Application of Intimate
Relationship Skills. A nationally-known educational program, PAIRS
teaches practical skills for increasing intimacy and closeness
while eliminating the negative behaviors that so often destroy love.
How does it work?
The PAIRS course takes place in a relaxed, safe, and private seminar
format that combines films, lectures, individual assessments,
literature, discussions, and exercises. In a well-structured
environment, participants learn and practice simple, down-to-earth
skills that can lead to more passionate, committed partnerships.
Do you have to be married to
take PAIRS?
No. PAIRS is open to all individuals and couples, regardless of marital
status.
We've tried other programs. How
is PAIRS different?
PAIRS is the most comprehensive course available today in terms of
resources, skills, and subject matter. It considers a whole gamut of
issues, including communication skills, negotiating, family of origin,
anger, jealousy, emotional expression, fighting fair,
self-understanding, and sensuality. The tools are simple and easy to
understand and the benefits are immediate and lasting.
What can we expect?
During the PAIRS seminar, you will learn together how to:
- Communicate effectively so you feel heard and understood;
- Respond effectively under stress;
- Solve conflict without anger;
- Fight fairly to get your needs met;
- Create harmony and grow closer emotionally;
- Forgive past hurts and use them to grow closer; and
- Become a positive role model to other couples and to your
children.
Can it work for us?
Research shows that unhappy couples wait six years, on the average,
before they seek outside help, that 50 to 60 percent of marriages end in
divorce, and that 90 percent of those who stay married claim to be
"unhappy." PAIRS has been successful for couples who said, for
example, "we had an OK marriage but needed some new sparks,"
"our attorneys are on hold; this is our last shot," and for
couples who said they would do "whatever it takes" to make
their relationship successful and fulfilling.
When is the next PAIRS program?
Dr. Fibus offers several
different PAIRS programs to meet your needs. For a more detailed
description, see Workshops.
